Mission
To help students develop their full potential as informed, critical thinking, ethical, global citizens equipped to face a changing world.
Educational Model - The School of Sciences & Humanities: A Foundation for Every Wentworth Student
The School of Sciences & Humanities plays a central role in every student’s experience at Wentworth. Through our general education curriculum, students across all majors build the skills and habits of mind they need to succeed in college and beyond. Courses in English, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Laboratory Sciences support students’ intellectual development while complementing the specialized training they receive in their professional fields.
We are here to support students in their learning journey—whether they are building confidence in written communication, making sense of complex scientific problems, exploring ethical questions, or analyzing information to inform decision-making. Our courses help students connect knowledge across disciplines, engage with pressing issues in today’s world, and develop a strong sense of their own voice, values, and goals.
Engaged Teaching and Learning - Active, Inclusive, and Responsive Classrooms
Faculty in the School of Sciences & Humanities use a variety of teaching approaches to meet the needs of all students. We create inclusive classrooms where students feel supported and challenged to grow. Across our courses, students engage in collaborative projects, simulations, design challenges, peer feedback, case studies, and creative expression. Group work and discussion are common, and many courses feature writing-intensive assignments, reflective exercises, or real-world problem-solving.
While some subjects are best explored through lecture or demonstration, our commitment is to engaged, student-centered learning. We strive to foster curiosity, confidence, and connection in every classroom.
Scientific Inquiry - Engaging Laboratory-Based Science for All Majors
Science courses in the School of Sciences & Humanities provide hands-on experience with experimentation, analysis, and scientific thinking. Whether in biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology or physics, students gain a foundation in scientific literacy that supports their work across all disciplines at Wentworth.
All students participate in laboratory science courses where they learn to collect and interpret data, test hypotheses, evaluate results, and work collaboratively in lab environments. These experiences are essential not only to Wentworth’s STEM programs, but also to the development of careful, evidence-based thinkers prepared to solve real-world problems.
Relevance and Responsiveness - Curriculum for a Changing World
Our curriculum continues to evolve alongside technological change and societal need. Faculty respond to emerging topics and tools, including the ethical use of artificial intelligence, data analysis, sustainability, and public health. Students engage with current debates, explore the impact of new technologies, and build the adaptability that today’s workforce demands.
We focus on preparing students to be informed users of information and technology, with strong critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and communication skills. As challenges grow more complex, so too does our commitment to offering high-quality, relevant learning experiences.
Purposeful Education - Preparing Well-Rounded Thinkers and Engaged Citizens
The School of Sciences & Humanities helps students grow into flexible, creative, and community-minded individuals. Our courses foster a broad, human-centered education that prepares students not only for their first job, but for a lifetime of learning, problem-solving, and civic participation.
We help students build essential skills in communication, critical information literacy, teamwork, and creative expression. Whether students are preparing to work in industry, launch their own ventures, or contribute to their communities, we believe that a well-rounded education provides the tools they need to lead meaningful and adaptable lives.
